Manchester United are reportedly interested in a summer move for Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez, GiveMeSport reports.
The 22-year-old has had a stellar season for his club, registering a goal and six assists to help Girona into a first qualification for Europe in their history.
Girona are in 3rd with 68 points and are looking likely to qualify for next season’s Champions League. They have a 10 point lead on Athletic Club who are in 5th.
The White and Reds bought him for around £3m from Real Madrid in 2022. The 14 time UEFA Champions League winners reportedly have a buy-back clause inserted in that deal. With their own problems at left-back, Real may well be United’s biggest competitors for the Spaniard’s signature.
It is no surprise that United are targeting Gutierrez. The left-back position has been a problem for the majority of the season as Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw have been plagued by injuries. There have also been links to the likes of Nice’s Melvin Bard and Luton’s Alfie Doughty.
The situation with Tyrell Malacia is perhaps most worrying as he hasn’t featured for the club since the final game of last season. Back in March, Fabrizio Romano said: ”Manchester United will go for a new young left-back, no matter what happens with Tyrell Malacia.”
As he is just 22, Gutierrez certainly fits that profile and would be a smart acquisition to strengthen United’s left-hand side.
