It’s finally time for one of the biggest events of the year to kick off — Evo Japan is back for 2024 and it’ll once again be happening in Tokyo, Japan.

There are far too many notable players participating to list them all, but just a small sample of the beasts participating in the main games is as follows: Bandits|MenaRD, DRX|Knee, RB|Gachikun, BST|Fuudo, UMA327, Rohto|Tokido, FLY|Punk, TSM|Leffen, SANWA|Laggia, DouyuTV|Xiao Hai, HB|Kawano, Fukunaga, GS|Gamera, KDF|CBM, Varrel|Ao, Yesports|Chris Wong, KDF|Ulsan, SANWA|M’, XG|ET, Tako, DRX|LowHigh, KDF|Meo-IL, Varrel|Rangchu, RB|Bonchan, PWS|Tahichi, Ibushigin|Tororo, DRX|Leshar, Ibushigin|Kakeru, MR|Umisho, Twis|Slash, FLY|TempestNYC, AMTRS|Score, Revo|Clearlamp, Oushuu-Hittou, MadKOF, Gobou, SNB|Yamaguchi, Watanabe, Saint, Yamasa|Nobi, Nuki, JeonDDing, Doujin, KDF|Mulgold, THY|Chikurin, Shirokuro, GS|Sho and Maikeru, but there are countless more top players waiting in the brackets looking to reach those top spots.

The main stage events for this year are led by two Evo Japan debuts in Street Fighter 6, which has an astounding entrant number surpassing 5,000, followed by the newly released Tekken 8 which sits at around 1,250 participants. Next in line is Guilty Gear Strive which has almost 900 players partaking and then another fresh face with Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising which has about 750 players signed up. The throwback title of Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike as well as SNK’s flagship fighter King of Fighters 15 both have just over 450 competitors each and finally the main titles is rounded out by another new title, Under Night In-Birth 2 [Sys:Celes] which has just over 350 registrants.

Each main game has the prize split with 1 million yen ($6,425) for first place, 450,000 yen ($2,891) to second place, 250,000 yen ($1,606) granted to third place, 140,000 yen ($899) for getting fourth and finally 80,000 yen ($514) each to the tied 5th placers.

There will also be a ridiculous amount of side events for games that weren’t able to make the main stage, with a comprehensive list of where games are being streamed found here, and we’ll do our best to get as many of these results into our coverage as well.

English streaming will be done at Evo but there will be constant action with Japanese commentary at Evo Japan 01Evo Japan 02 and Evo Japan 03.
