Pumpkin hitbox controllers face off head-to-head just in time for Halloween

It’s that time of year again where people are doing whatever they can possibly think of to pumpkins for the spooky season, and that apparently includes a bunch of electrical components.

Canadian fighting game community member and tournament organizer 7upjawa recently pieced together not one but two functioning hitbox-style controllers out of pumpkins for Halloween.

And not only do they work, but it appears 7upjawa brought them out to locals as well for everyone to try them out fittingly while playing some Darkstalkers.

We don’t see how exactly they were put together, but it’s safe to presume the pumpkins were (hopefully) cleaned out and treated with care to prevent any moisture build up because that’d be the most obvious issue.

This isn’t the technically hardest thing to put together since you’d basically just need the right controller board, a USB cable, buttons and wires, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t probably still take a good number of hours to get cleaned, prepped, wired and working.

And it just continues to show that the FGC will go to basically any length to make a controller out of anything even if it has a shelf life.

It’s not the first working pumpkinbox we’ve seen this season either, but is the first time we’ve witnessed them going head-to-head.

Just make sure you don’t keep them too long after the holiday, and don’t let any squirrels near them (unless they want to lab some setups with you too before chewing a hole in it).
