Akwa-Ibom Ex-governors and their deputies reconcile with Governor Udom Emmanuel

FORMER governors and deputies, including Obong Victor Attah, Godswill Akpabio, Ambassador Etim Okpoyo, Sir Michael Udofia, Patrick Ekpotu and Lady Valarie Ebe have agreed to bury the hatchet and work with Governor Udom Emmanuel in the interest of peace and development of the state.

Speaking under the aegis of the Committee of Former Governors and Deputy Governors of Akwa Ibom State (CFGDGA), the forum’s leader, Attah who was governor between 1999 and 2007 originally opposed the emergence of the incumbent as Akpabio’s successor.

In a statement issued by the ex-leaders in Uyo, they resolved to jettison premodial sentiments and work for the unity, peace and development of the state.

“It is quite a relief that the Supreme Court has at last given a final determination in your favour regarding your election. With this confirmation of your mandate, we bring you our best wishes for a successful and peaceful tenure in office.

“So far, by your demonstration that decorum and not impunity should guide and regulate our affairs, you are already on the right path. By affirming your desire to create employment and engage our people, you have inspired hope. By constantly reiterating your emphasis on industrialisation and not indecent and selective demonstration of patronages to loyalists, you have made a bold statement.”

“Let the task of reconciliation and putting back our people together be considered one of your most urgent tasks ahead, towards achievement of these goals,” the statement read in part.
