The Magistrates Court in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government in Cross River State went up in flames yesterday morning leaving practically nothing in the aftermath.
The incident which reportedly started at 3 a.m could not be put off as residents were still sleeping and the fire service was unable to respond.
Information reaching us stated that the inferno which could have been triggered by electrical fault consumed the entire building and records beyond recognition.
A legal practitioner, Eno Iyamba who was at the Ugep High court this morning for a matter said the court could not sit because of the matter.
“I was at Ugep High Court today but court couldn’t sit because of the (fire) incident at the magistrates court.”
An eye witness who spoke with newsmen said
“We cannot tell what caused the fire but what we can say now is that the fire destroyed everything in the court including records. We hope it will not affect the dispensation of justice in the court but I know that all their records have been destroyed by the inferno.”
