The Cross River State Super Highway project of the current state government in Cross River has remained in controversies and very divisive despite it ambience importance to the state.
Many Communities along the corridors of the superhighway have complained bitterly that the project will deplete their forest and deprive them of valuable farmland. For even the EIA have also said that the project will seriously damage the environment and social life of the corridor communities.
Reports reaching us says that Comrade Odigha Odigha, the chairman of an NGO, Coalition For Environment has been arrested for his campaign over an acceptable EIA and citizens right for the Super Highway Project by the Cross River State Police Command.
While this is ongoing, the Cross River State Civil Society has demanded the immediate release of Comrade Odigha and to know the charges level against him by the Police authorities otherwise the police action will be seen a threat to the activities of a legitimate civil society movement.
At the time of filing this report, Comrade Odigha has been released by the Police.
