Sum of N1, 725, 852, 473.50 has been paid to Sermatech Nigeria Limited by the Federal Government of Nigeria for the rehabilitation of Alesi-Ugep (Iyamoyung-Ugep) Section of Calabar-Ikom Highway in Cross River State
I have obtained “Engineers Certificate from the Federal Ministry of Works , Highways, South-South Department, Zonal Headquarters, Benin City, Edo State dated 2nd February 2015 in respect of Contract No. 6263 for the Rehabilitation of Alesi-Ugep (Iyamoyung-Ugep) Section in Cross River State awarded to Messrs: Sermatech Nigeria Limited dated the 2nd February, 2015 signed by Engr.C.O Uzo, Director, Highways South-South showing that the contractor was awarded contract sum of N9, 168, 931, 117.50 out which the sum of N1, 309, 740, 052.50 was paid as advanced payment in December, 2014.
Also I have obtained another “Engineers Certificate from the Federal Ministry of Works , Highways, South-South Department, Zonal Headquarters , Benin City, Edo State dated 2nd February 2015 in respect of Contract No. 6263 for the Rehabilitation of Alesi-Ugep (Iyamoyung-Ugep) Section in Cross River State awarded to Messrs: Sermatech Nigeria Limited dated the 25th January, 2016, 2015 signed by Engr.C.O Uzo, Director, Highways South-South showing that the sum of N416, 112, 421.00 was paid to the contractor.
So far, the sum of N1, 725, 852, 473.50 has been paid to Sermatech Nigeria Limited by the Federal Government of Nigeria for the rehabilitation of Alesi-Ugep (Iyamoyung-Ugep) Section of Calabar-Ikom Highway in Cross River State.
REVEALED: NAMES OF CONTRACTORS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION/REHABILITATION OF UGEP-ALESI SECTION OF CALABAR-IKOM FEDERAL HIGHWAY; OGOJA (MBOK JUNCTION)-ABUOCHICHIE ROAD AND CONSTRUCTION OF IKOM BRIDGE
On the 15th December, 2015, my Law Firm made an application for information from the Honourable Minister of Works, Housing and Power seeking for access to information concerning the contract for the construction/rehabilitation of Ugep-Alesi Section of the Calabar-Ikom Highway; the contract for the construction of Ikom Bridge and contract for the rehabilitation of Ogoja Mbok Junction-Abuochichie Road all in Cross River State.
Gladly, the Honourable Minister of Works, Housing and Power by a letter with Reference Number WX/42777/T/38 dated 15th January 2016 signed by A.I Dosunmu on behalf of the Permanent Secretary has supplied the information sought by my law form as enumerated below thus:
CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION/REHABILITATION OF UGEP-ALESI SECTION OF IKOM –CALABAR HIGHWAY
The contract for the rehabilitation of Ugep-Alesi Section of the Calabar-Ikom Federal Highway was awarded to SERMATECH NIGERIA LIMITED on the 11th December, 2014 fir the sum of N9, 168, 931,117.00 (Nine Billion, One Hundred and Sixty Eight Million, One Hundred and Seventh Naira).
The date of commencement of the contract was 15th December, 2015. The date of completion of the contract is 23th January 2017.
The period of duration of the contract is 24 months. Till date only 3.94 % of the job has been done by Sermatch Nigeria Limited.
Note that Sermatch Nigeria Limited is a company belonging to the former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke.
CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF IKOM BRIDGE: CALABAR-IKOM HIGHWAY
The contract for the construction Ikom Bridge in Calabar-Ikom Highway was awarded to FADA CONSTRUCTION LIMITED on the 3rd December, 2014 for the sum of N6, 544, 620,043.50 (Six Billion, Five Hundred and Forty Four Million, Sixty and Twenty Hundred and Forty Three Thousand and Fifty Naira).
The date of commencement of the contract was 15th January 2015, 2015. The date of completion of the contract is 13th January 2017.
The period of duration of the contract is 24 months. Till date the contractor has not mobilised to site.
CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRCUTION/REHABILITATION OF OGOJA (MBOK JUNCTION)-ABUOCHICHIE ROAD
The contract for the construction Ikom Bridge in Calabar-Ikom Highway was awarded to WELTONE STONE NIGERIA LIMITED on the 11th December, 2014 for the sum of N7, 037,980,621.21 (seven Billion, Three Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty Thousand, Sixty Hundred and Twenty One, Twenty One Kobo).
The date of commencement of the contract was 21st January 2015, 2015. The date of completion of the contract is 13th January 2017.
The period of duration of the contract is 24 months. Till date the contractor has not mobilised to site.
I urge all well-meaning Cross Riverians to exert pressure on these contractors to execute these contracts which will go a long way to reduce road accidents, promote trade, commerce and social interaction among the people.
