Staffers of the University of Calabar today broke into wild jubilation to celebrate the suspension of the erstwhile Bursar of the institution, Mr. Peter Agi.
A cross section of those interviewed by Campus WATCH expressed relief at the news of the former Bursar’s removal. They claimed that Mr. Agi had constituted himself into a cog in the wheel of smooth administration of the University.
They listed refusal to pay staff legitimate entitlements, selective pay-rolling of newly recruited staff, refusal to remit deductions of Unical Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society which has stalled the payment of dividends by the organization, refusal to release fellowship funds duly approved by Tetfund for academic staff causing them to be repatriated from foreign universities prematurely as well as frequently humiliating senior academic and admin staff in his office each time they make appeals for him to pay their entitlements, as many of his ‘sins’.
Meanwhile, the suspended Bursar in a swift reaction claims that he is still the Bursar having not received any letter of suspension yet adding that he is currently on sick leave.
However, when contacted on the former Bursar’s claims, the office of the Registrar denied any knowledge that Mr. Agi was granted any sick leave.
On the claim of the former Bursar that he has not been served any letter of suspension, our source stated that every effort to deliver mail to Mr. Peter Agi had failed as he has instructed his domestic staff not to receive any mail from the university.
Our source also confirmed that this was the reason why the query letter issued two weeks ago on Mr. Peter Agi could not be delivered.
