The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu has expressed government interest in the social intervention programme of the office of President Mohamadu Buhari.
Prof. Esu gave the indication when he received a delegation of the representation of the Special adviser, social intervention unit from the office of the Vice President on a courtesy call in Government House in Calabar.
He said the gesture was necessary because it will help to alleviate the poverty and illiteracy rate among the people.
The Deputy Governor requested the operators of the programmes to carry out more enlightenment activities and sensitization to enable state governments in the country to key in.
He therefore requested the social intervention unit to identify specific areas of intervention need and make them available to the government so as to get those responsible for the various processes of the programme.
Earlier in his presentation, the representative of the Special adviser, social intervention unit of the office of the Vice President. Mr. Uzo Alutu said the visit is to sensitize the people of state on the programmes.
Mr. uzo Alulu explained that the social protection is one of the ways of bringing the inequality gap in the society which according to him has increased to an alarming rate.
According to him, the programme is designed to help young Nigerians acquire and develop life long skills to become solution providers in their communities and players in the domestic and global markets.
