Rafael Nadal and Spanish counterparts, Marc Lopez has won gold in the 2016 Olympic men’s doubles in Rio de Janeiro.
The duo staged it earlier on as they beat Romania’s Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau 6-2 3-6 6-4 to clinch the precious prize.
Meanwhile, Nadal was shocked to lose to 114th place Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina as he failed to reach finals of men’s single in the same competition in Rio after beating Thomasz Bellucci of Brazil in straight three sets in the semi-finals
Also, Jack Sock and Steve Johnson of USA won bronze with a 6-2 6-4 win over Daniel Nestor and Vasek Popisil of Canada.
After the game, Nadal said his partner was a close friend even though they had little experience of playing together. “It is a privilege to be able to share this moment with one of my best friends,” said the 14-time Grand Slam winner.
