Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes has been subject to lots of transfer rumours on account of the impressive form he has been in all season.
As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed just last week, 5 of the ‘big 6’ in the Premier League are all interested in the midfielder.
This includes both Manchester United and Arsenal, and as O Dia (via Sport Witness) reported today, the two English clubs are leading the race for the Portuguese midfielder, although Arsenal are more serious and could be making an offer soon.
According to the report, Arsenal ‘may make an offer’ to Wolves for the Brazil international when the window opens, although they don’t mention the figure involved.
As the report states, Mikel Arteta and his scouting team are prepared to open negotiations and are willing to go far into the negotiations, something United are not.
The Brazilian is still quite young, which means he is only going to improve with coaching and experience. Joining a big club could accelerate his development as he would get to train under top class managers and play alongside quality players.
The 23-year-old has solidified himself as one of the most promising midfielders in the league, and his tenacity and ball winning in the middle of the park is something both clubs could do with.
Gomes has made 31 appearances this season, managing two goals and an assist in the process.
He is on contract at Molineux until at least 2028 with an option to extend for a further year.
Wolves are in no trouble financially and are not walking a tight rope with Premier League Financial Fair Play rules, so they do not have to let go of one of their best players unless they really have to or the right price is offered.
