There have been all kinds of mods that have been added to Mortal Kombat 1 here nearly seven months into the game’s lifespan. Generally, these mods add new costumes for characters and the occasional new fighter that wouldn’t normally find their way onto the roster in an official capacity.
One wild PC modder, however, has done something we have not yet seen before. They have crafted a mod that adds Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon into Mortal Kombat 1, and Boon has not only seen it, but shared a response to it over on Twitter as well.
It seems that Boon’s initial reaction to this mod wasn’t the most positive. To be fair, there is definitely merit to the hang up some people have about the idea of being added to a game like Mortal Kombat where you can not only rip opponents apart into a bloody mess, but can also be ripped apart yourself.
However, Boon did have a few things to say about the mod, and while he might not be the most comfortable with it, he also notes that mods like these do crack him up. Boon had the following to say in response to the mod:

2. You wouldn’t believe how many times its been suggested that we make Ed Boon as an MK fighter. Not gonna happen.
3. These mods krack me up.
4. Who made this?!”
As we can see from his tweet, Boon appears to be pretty against the idea of him being an actual fighter in Mortal Kombat. Despite him traditionally voicing Scorpion back in the old games, it seems Boon would rather stay out of the fight.
He notes that a lot of people suggest that NetherRealm Studios make Ed into an actual fighter and add him to the playable roster, but the game director plainly states that that will never happen. And as is the natural progression of things; if the game developers won’t do it, the PC modders will do it themselves.
The Boon mod for Mortal Kombat 1 actually looks pretty awesome in action. Granted, there isn’t any animation in his face at all, but Boon does adopt Scorpion’s move set here which is definitely the right choice.
