Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will be out of contract in June.

He is currently on a £340k a week deal, which has sparked a lot of uncertainty around his future.

This is especially because Sir Jim and his INEOS contingent are keen on reducing the club’s wage bill and the only solution that seemed amenable with Varane was a new deal but with lowered wages.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Sir Jim and his team have held talks with the decorated centre back to try and find common ground as his contract nears expiration.

According to said report, Sir Jim and INEOS are reportedly content with letting Varane leave when his contract expires.

As the uncertainty continues to brew, the French World Cup winner keeps attracting interest as he still is one of the best box defenders in World football.

He has been most strongly linked to the Saudi Leagues and the MLS, but it remains unclear where he will end up.

Just last month, however, he went on record clarifying he was only willing to retire at the clubs he has played for, which only include Real Madrid, RC Lens and Manchester United.

He continues to struggle with injury niggles this season, as has been the case with virtually the entire Man United defence.

During his near-three years at Old Trafford, Varane has scored two goals and registered one assist in 92 games in all competitions.

Manchester United will do good to try and retain Varane at least for another season, considering how fickle their defence is.

A defender like him with that much experience and a serial winner as well is always advisable having around.
