Mike Ross discusses how Excellent Adventures got started and revisits some of the history of Cross Counter

Mike Ross is a legend in the fighting game community. From being The People’s Champ to the pop offs to putting E. Honda on the map in Street Fighter 4, Mike’s achievements and impact on the FGC are up there with the best of them.

One of Ross’ past projects that helped propel him to stardom was The Excellent Adventures of Gootecks and Mike Ross, which he co-hosted alongside fellow FGC legend Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez. In a new episode of Chris T’s podcast Talking With T, Mike sat down and shared some of the history behind Cross Counter, Excellent Adventures, and how everything came to be.

If you were around during the Street Fighter 4 era, then it’s very, very likely that you have either seen or at least ran into Excellent Adventures and Cross Counter at some point. The impact the show had on the community was massive, and a lot of content in the FGC today still has influences of Cross Counter’s work injected throughout.

In this podcast episode, Mike revisits how the show began, detailing how the earliest episodes didn’t even feature either guy on camera. It wasn’t until Ryan pitched the idea of getting both players on the couch and on camera that the show really started to take shape.

Mike also talks about how getting into the top 8 of Evo in Street Fighter 4 also helped add credibility to their skills, which also helped push the show further in the early days.

There are a lot of words of wisdom here from a content creator who has grown a channel and built a career in this space, and not only built a career, but became one of the most popular faces in the fighting game community. Mike also talks about the mind set behind even taking the plunge into content creation and how you need to make things that YOU want to see, not things you think others want to.

It’s always great hearing from Mike Ross, and its an even bigger treat to learn more about one of the most beloved shows in FGC history. Be sure to check out the full clip below.
