Manchester United head over to London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge later this evening, and the big news of it is Marcus Rashford will be dropped from the starting lineup.
According to Sam from The United Stand, Erik ten Hag will be rotating his squad and one of the victims will be Marcus Rashford.
The England forward will be dropped and will be replaced by Brazilian winger Antony.
Rashford has been in the headlines quite a lot today.
He was the centre of a prolonged discussion on Gary Neville’s Overlap conversation with the likes of fellow former United legends Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand that was uploaded to YouTube earlier today.
Both Neville and Keane mentioned that something was not right with Rashford this season.
“I wouldn’t say I’m worried about him, but you look at him and there’s something amiss. The people around him, whether it be family or his manager, who’s on his case every day. Who is giving him an old-fashioned kick up the arse and saying, ‘Come on, we need more from you’”, said Keane.
This was followed by a social post from Marcus Rashford’s brother on Instagram, where he criticised the former players for not talking to the United forward directly when they have the opportunity to do so.
It’s unclear whether any of this conversation around Rashford was in the thinking of manager Erik ten Hag when he made the call to replace Rashford or if it were merely for tactical reasons.
Rashford didn’t have the best of games for United last time out, when he was fairly anonymous against Brentford.
Meanwhile, Antony scored the crucial equaliser against Liverpool that sent the FA Cup match into extra time.
Either way, it’s a big call from ten Hag – who has come in for criticism himself this season amid reports that his time at United could be up soon.
With kick-off for the game in just over an hour, United fans won’t have long to see whether the Dutchman made the right decision in dropping one of the biggest names in the United lineup for the game.
