Erik ten Hag’s tenure at United has taken a turn for the worst this season, with terrible performances and results across the board.
United are currently languishing in sixth, a whole 8 points behind Spurs in 4th. Champions League qualification in that regard remains bleak, and it perhaps is the only thing that convinces Ratcliffe to keep ten Hag on the job longer.
All the speculations around ten Hag’s job have naturally birthed rumours of managers being linked with the club.
The club’s position and performances is one thing but coupled with a new owner coming in, the speculations just grow and grow.
The latest of this long line of managers linked with the club is the Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, as reported by The Independent.
According to the report, the young manager could be open to returning to club management after the conclusion of Euros 2024 and as such is being closely monitored by big clubs including United and Liverpool, who are set to say goodbye to an Anfield legend in Jürgen Klopp.
Nagelsmann is in such highly sought after that even Bayern Munich who sacked him just a year ago are once again looking at him, ironically replacing his replacement in fellow German Thomas Tuchel.
According to the report, Man United’s interest in the young German tactician is increasingly growing should they decide to sack ten Hag in the summer.
Nagelsmann joins a long, long list of rumoured replacements for ten Hag that includes names like England manager Gareth Southgate, Tuchel himself, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi among others.
It remains to be seen what Ratcliffe and his INEOS contingent decide to do about ten Hag, but the clubs results between now and May definitely will have a massive say in their decision.
If Erik ten Hag can somehow magically manage to sneak the club into the Champions League places and win the F.A Cup while at it, then perhaps INEOS may be convinced to keep him at the help to lead the club into the new vision they bring.
