Janet Cage has a secret Brutality in Mortal Kombat 1 that is a direct reference to a classic Mortal Kombat glitch

The latest DLC Kameo Fighter for Mortal Kombat 1 has joined the game this week. Janet Cage, the alternate timeline version of Johnny Cage, is now available in-game, and players have been hitting the lab to figure out what all she can do.

Not long after her official launch, it appears that someone has found a secret Brutality that the Kameo can use to finish off an opponent. This finisher also happens to be a direct reference to a classic Mortal Kombat glitch involving Johnny Cage.

As we already know, Janet Cage has several moves and attacks that were inspired by the original Mortal Kombat 1 version of Johnny Cage. For example, she has a jumping punch assist that allows her to do it multiple times and essentially replicates a combo that Johnny had back in the first game in the franchise.

It seems as though Janet pulled from the original Mortal Kombat 1 with this secret Brutality as well. With this Brutality, Janet hits the opponent with a classic MK uppercut that knocks their head off, then she hits two more uppercuts which knock two more heads off of her foe.

No, that wasn’t a typo. In the original MK1 glitch, Johnny would hit the opponent with three uppercuts, and each time he hit one of these punches a head would come off of the opponent. After the first uppercut with a now headless opponent, the following punches would essentially generate another head until there were three heads lying on the floor when all was said and done.

Janet’s Brutality does the exact same thing here, three heads and all. This isn’t the first time the classic glitch was referenced in a Mortal Kombat game as we saw it as a legit Fatality in Mortal Kombat 2 and we saw it return in Mortal Kombat 11 as well.

The clip for this new, secret Janet Cage Brutality comes from RevTerryRice on Twitter. We don’t know the exact inputs for it just yet, but RevTerryRice notes that they held down + L2 (on PS5) during the Brutality to get it to work.
