Akuma's Street Fighter Alpha 2 stage is returning in Street Fighter 6's World Tour... but that should be impossible

Capcom recently teased fans with Akuma’s World Tour introduction, indicating that the time of his arrival in Street Fighter 6 is drawing ever closer. Needless to say, the game will never be the same after Akuma’s joins the roster.

To meet Akuma in World Tour, players will apparently have to travel to the island known as “Gokuento.” As of right now, it’s only confirmed that Gokuento will be a location in the World Tour mode, but it’s also highly likely that it’s coming to Street Fighter 6 as a playable stage considering that the Street Fighter 6 Year 1 Ultimate Pass promises two DLC stages and we’ve only gotten one DLC stage so far with the Ruined Lab when Ed was released.

Those who played Street Fighter Alpha 2 should already be familiar with Gokuento as it was Akuma’s home stage in that game. However, the stage has never returned since the Street Fighter Alpha series for a very good reason.

At the conclusion of Ryu’s ending in Street Fighter Alpha 2, Akuma reveals to Ryu that he was merely testing him in their fight together. Akuma had concluded that Ryu, like Akuma, had the potential to use the Satsui no Hado within him.

In a demonstration of his power, Akuma would perform the Kongou Kokuretsuzan. This would result in the island being completely destroyed with a single strike from Akuma.

Though the game itself describe Gokuento as “disappearing,” it also showed an explosion at the location. In the next scene, Ryu was seen swimming in the ocean, having survived the aftermath of the event.

Curiously, it would appear that the island has returned in Street Fighter 6. One would think that this would be impossible considering that the island had been destroyed. Akuma even had to go to a new location to resume his training in later story events.

Like with other characters in Street Fighter 6, the avatar can receive training from Akuma as a master in World Tour mode. It’s expected that it will also be possible to learn more about Akuma by raising the avatar’s bond level with him.

More than likely, there is a explanation as to why the island is back. Akuma is likely to explain to the player how it is that they are able to stand on Gokuento once more.

Perhaps Akuma has become so powerful that he can now raise the island from below the depths. This would seem to make sense considering just how powerful the character is in Street Fighter lore.

If we assume that Gokuento is the other stage of the Street Fighter 6 Year 1 Ultimate Pass, then we can probably expect to acquire the stage individually for 250 Fighter Coins or 5,000 Drive Tickets, like with Ed’s Ruined Lab stage.
