Tekken 8 has been a pretty big hit among the fighting game community already with players around the world enjoying the next generation of the iconic series, but what about the video game audience in general?
The PlayStation Blog recently released its download rankings for January 2024 where the 3D fighter also showed promising results.
In both the United States / Canada and Europe, Tekken 8 was the best selling new release of the month by far though it didn’t quite manage to top the overall list.
Bandai Namco’s new flagship fighter came in at fourth in North America and fifth in Europe despite releasing on January 25, so less than one week of the full month.
Tekken handily beat out other promising new releases like Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, which all failed to crack the top 10.
The only things to beat it out were the big mainstream titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Grand Theft Auto 5, Madden NFL 24 and in the EU, EA Sports FC 24 and Hogwarts Legacy.
Though it would have been nice to see it at the very top, Tekken 8 still seems to have had itself a pretty darn good launch, especially considering this does not count physical copies sold, only digital downloads, which would be higher for a brand new game.

This matches up well with what we’ve been seeing out of Tekken on PC where it wasn’t quite able to beat Street Fighter 6’s record launch, but it is still the most popular fighting game on Steam currently by a decent margin.
Bamco hasn’t given an update to the title’s overall sales numbers yet, but it’s probably well over a million at this point at least — so they’ll likely say something soon to congratulate the success.
Back to the PlayStation charts, Mortal Kombat 1 still managed to come in at 15th right behind Like a Dragon in North America.
On the PS4, Mortal Kombat X actually managed to chart at 8th place and Injustice 2 at 12th, so NetherRealm Studios has seen some good continued sales through its digital deals too.
