Manchester United supporters are bracing themselves for bad news as Lisandro Martinez was forced to leave the pitch due to an injury during the match against West Ham.
Martinez couldn’t carry on after what looked like a knee injury occurred in the latter half of the game. Despite his attempts to play through the pain, the severity of the situation became apparent, leading him to exit straight to the tunnel accompanied by the medical team.
On MUTV, commentator Sammy McIlroy remarked that for Martinez to leave the field, the issue had to be severe. Erik ten Hag, the team’s manager, visibly concerned, acknowledged the potential impact on the squad, emphasising it as a significant loss if the injury sidelines the Argentine defender for an extended period.
Having already been sidelined twice in 2023 due to foot injuries, Martinez had only just made his return to the lineup.
In a more detailed conversation with the club’s media team, Ten Hag shared insights into Martinez’s morale behind-the-scenes following the incident. “He’s very sad, very disappointed. We are all, we feel really with him. First of all, it’s a personal disaster when it’s really bad,” he stated, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
The manager further noted, “It doesn’t look good. So, there’s a big concern. But we have to wait, coming days, what is the diagnosis and then we can tell you more.” Indicating a period of uncertainty as the team awaits further medical evaluation.
Gaston Edul, an Argentine journalist, posted on X, highlighting that the results from the medical examinations are expected by tomorrow. The looming possibility of Martinez being out for the majority of 2024 is something the club and its fans are dreadfully anticipating, a scenario that could soon turn into a stark reality for Manchester United.
