Use these for surefire wins… but don’t expect to be invited to peoples’ birthdays ever again
Even before Mortal Kombat 1 the bloodiest fighting game franchise wasn’t exactly known for having the most competitively-balanced gameplay, and some of the kinds of bugs or glitches players discovered were absolutely game-breaking.
In their latest video essay Ketchup and Mustard highlight five of the absolute dirtiest tactics players discovered and abused in MK entries over the last few decades, which we’re sharing purely for educational and entertainment purposes.
Most of us probably remember how cheap it was to simply spam back+low kick sweeps in early Mortal Kombat games, but that’s not exactly the level of dirty we’re talking here.
We’re talking about legitimate infinite sequences that leave opponents with absolutely no answers except to watch helplessly as increasingly smaller bits of health eek away from their life bar as the scaling maxes out.
Another one of the examples shown off in the video sees an exploit from the Mortal Kombat 4 days wherein the defender did not have the ability to block. That’s right, there was an extremely common situation in which pressing the block button did nothing and you’d be completely susceptible to whatever it was your foe was doing.
Perhaps the most egregious of these dirty tactics was seen in the later titles of the 3D era as players found ways of actually being able to move around and attack their opponents in between rounds.
Check out the full video as Ketchup takes us through the history of MK’s dirtiest tactics and then let us know in the comments if you’ve ever been on the receiving (or worse, giving) end of any of these.
