These classic MK3 PC mods are sure to turn heads
The Mortal Kombat series has a long legacy spanning over 30 years now. There are so many iconic characters, moves, songs, lines of dialogue, and looks that have stemmed from the widely popular fighting game franchise over that time, and when it comes to retro Mortal Kombat titles, it is often that fans think of Mortal Kombat 3’s designs when they think of the characters from the series.
Mortal Kombat 3 is home to many of the iconic costumes and looks we know and love today, and one PC modder has been hard at work trying to bring those designs back here in Mortal Kombat 1. From the looks of it, they’ve succeeded, and these new PC mods return the likes of Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Rain, Reptile, Smoke, and more to their classic MK3 iterations.
These PC mods come from the mind of Mike Monty. To present them to the world, the creator has put together a full-blown trailer and gameplay video that does a fantastic job of showing how these alternate skins look in action.
As mentioned previously, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Rain, Reptile, and Smoke have all been given retro MK3 costumes here, but that isn’t all. General Shao has also been given his iconic Shao Kahn look, and we even see Cyber Ninja skins put into place for Smoke and Rain.
Now, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have been adding nods to classic Mortal Kombat games into Mortal Kombat 1. We’ve seen alternate costumes from games like Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for characters like Sub-Zero and Scorpion so far, but when it comes to the earlier 2D stuff, those looks have been essentially confined to the Kameo Fighters — as legacy Kameos have been given looks inspired by their classic designs as their default costumes.
But PC modders will always pick up any slack left by developers and create content and alternate costumes that fans want to see that haven’t been made available in an official capacity yet. In this case, Mike Monty’s Mortal Kombat 3 mods for Mortal Kombat 1 look fantastic, and you can see them in action below, as well as find more information about them in the video’s description.
