952 motorcycles impounded in Lagos in two weeks: Task Force

The Lagos State Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (task force) impounded 952 motorcycles in different parts of the state within two weeks.

The task force impounded 344 motorcycles on January 14 and seized 355 others on January 23.

The public relations officer of the agency, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, confirmed the seizures in a statement, saying 253 motorcycles were impounded on Thursday.

According to Mr Abdulraheem, the seizure would continue until motorcyclists in the state obey traffic laws.

Mr Abdylraheem said Thursday’s operation was carried out on the Oshodi-Apapa Road, where such a raid was conducted recently. He said the motorcyclists were recalcitrant.

He noted that commercial motorcycle operation was banned in Apapa Local Government Area.

“We have been to this particular location about twice because of the sensitivity of the corridor and routes it connects.

“However, our leniency has been taken for granted by these okada operators and perpetrators of illegalities in the area.

” We have surprised them today and confiscated all bikes that operated here,” he said.

He said the task force had also warned illegal sellers of petroleum products (black marketers) on highways to stop the act or be arrested.
