This girl and her siblings are all named after Tekken characters

Almost everyone who’s a fan of comics, anime, video games or even just certain movies and TV shows has probably thought about naming their future children after their favorite characters, but what happens when they actually go through with it.

TikTok user Ninaeyu recently shared her experience of just that, as her parents apparently named all of their kids after Tekken fighters.

“This is my favorite story to tell people, but my siblings and I were named after Tekken characters,” Nina begins. “My dad was / is a huge fan of Tekken. He used to play in tournaments. He was really good at the game.”

She continues on that she grew up watching her father play Tekken a lot and also played with him and coming to love the series herself, which is cool to hear.

If you couldn’t tell by her username, she confirms that she was indeed named after Nina Williams, but since she is the oldest child, her parents didn’t stop there.

“Naturally this led to a pattern. Once my younger brother was born, he is a year younger than me. So my oldest younger brother is named Jin.”

This worked out for the Korean American family considering Jin is a fairly common name for both Japan and South Korea, but Kazuya and Heihachi probably wouldn’t have gone over as well.

So what’d they do with the third child?

“And then I also have a baby brother, who is 14 years younger than me. My whole family we were like ‘we have to continue the tradition,’ so my baby brother, his Korean name is, you can probably guess by now, Hwoarang.”

Considering this is apparently her favorite fun fact to tell people and she says she can’t wait to play Tekken 8, the dad’s master plan seems to have worked out pretty perfectly — though we technically don’t know how the brother’s feel about their name origins.

Nina’s post viral on TikTok with nearly a million views as of the time of reporting and was also shared across the fighting game channels of X/Twitter and beyond where it’s gotten even more attention from other fans who also may or may not be down with this idea.

So I guess this goes to show that naming your kids after your favorite characters can work out, but context and sensibility is still important I’d say too.

If you’re say British or something, maybe you should stick with naming your son after like Terry Bogard or Ken Masters and not Iori Yagami or Akuma.

We do hope Nina does indeed pick up Tekken 8 because in our big review for the game, we gave it very high marks, especially with longtime fans in mind.
