Reports emerging on Friday suggest Manchester United are keen on securing a new permanent signing as the January transfer window draws to a close.
Under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, Manchester United experienced an impressive inaugural season, culminating in an FA Cup final appearance, League Cup victory, and a top-four spot in the Premier League.
However, Ten Hag’s second season at the helm has seen a dip in form, with the team already eliminated from the League Cup and European competitions. Furthermore, United’s inconsistent results have left them in the seventh position in the Premier League.
Ten Hag is reportedly looking for support from the United board to bolster the squad during the winter window, aiming to reverse the club’s fortunes.
Earlier reports indicated that Ten Hag was eyeing up to three new players, focusing on strengthening positions such as centre-back, midfielder, and striker.
Football Insider now report that Manchester United are actively pursuing a significant permanent signing as the January transfer deadline approaches. According to the report, a high-profile deal, described as ‘huge’ by sources, remains a possibility, although it hinges on further player departures from the club.
The report also mentioned that Manchester United’s recruitment team is particularly focused on acquiring a new centre-back, should the opportunity for a deal arise.
United currently holds the seventh spot in the Premier League following a 2-2 draw with Tottenham last Sunday, 14 January.
Their next fixture is in the FA Cup fourth round, where they are set to face Newport County at Rodney Parade on Sunday, 28 January.
