Manchester United seems poised to acquire the services of a promising Glasgow-based goalkeeper in what could be a landmark move this month.

Sources from Daily Record, known for its authoritative coverage of football in Scotland, have indicated that Callan McKenna, the young goalkeeper from Queens Park, is on the verge of signing with the Old Trafford squad.

At just 17 years old, McKenna, a native of Rutherglen, has already established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Spiders and has played for Scotland’s under 17 and under 18 national teams.

The report suggests that the Red Devils are in the latter stages of discussions to finalise McKenna’s transfer, a deal that is expected to bring a significant six-figure amount to the Championship side, with potential additional payments that could augment the transfer fee.

Manchester United has been monitoring McKenna for a considerable period and appears to be nearing the completion of the deal.

The pursuit of McKenna wasn’t without competition. It’s understood that Manchester United had to contend with interest from other top-tier Premier League teams, including Arsenal and Chelsea, in their bid to secure the young goalkeeper.

McKenna, a product of Hibs’ youth system who joined Queens Park at the age of 12, had previously been associated with a move to Leicester City.

He was even invited to train with the team that clinched the Premier League title in 2016, but a transfer to Leicester did not come to fruition.
