Cody Travers, originally from the Final Fight series, first became playable as a Street Fighter combatant in Street Fighter Alpha 3. Before that, however, he was actually present in the background of a certain stage in Street Fighter Alpha 2 with his girlfriend (now ex-girlfriend) watching the other fighters going at it.
If one or both players are using a female character on the stage in which Cody is present, he’ll actually start paying real close attention to a female fighter as she walks by where Cody is standing. Needless to say, Jessica takes notice of this and clearly doesn’t appreciate Cody not paying attention to her.
As it turns out, Jessica has a special way of wiping that smile off Cody’s face. She ends up delivering a powerful punch to Cody that gets him to reprioritize some things.
You can tell that Jessica really isn’t holding back as Cody can be seen spitting up blood while recoiling. While funny, we probably wouldn’t see an Easter egg like this play out in a modern fighting game.
Considering that Cody is next seen in Street Fighter Alpha 3 in prison attire with him now broken up with Jessica, this could be seen as a foreshadowing of sorts. As it turns out, Cody and Jessica had a rocky relationship.
Amusingly, Cody won’t stop gawking at other women after getting punched the first time. This scene can play out multiple times when the correct conditions are in play.
