Street Fighter 6 continues to see pretty regular updates with new content as we cross over seven months since the title first launched, and it seems we’ve got even more on the horizon beyond what we may be expecting.
The official event calendar for SF6 appears to show there’s something unannounced planned to drop later in January, but what the heck is it?
If you take a look at the Buckler’s Boot Camp website, the calendar shows a “new product release” in red slated for January 26 without saying what it is.
After following the game since before release, we feel like we’ve got a good idea on what is and is not likely to be this mystery content.
The big question is of course, “is this going to be Ed as the next DLC character?”, but we’re pretty confident that’s not going to be the case.
For Rashid and A.K.I., Capcom released their gameplay trailers a full three weeks to a month before the character dropped, and we’ve yet to see Ed boy in game at all yet.
Moreover, Capcom hasn’t added in the “Ed Arrives” Fighting Pass like they did for the first two DLC either, though the content could potentially be said pass considering it’s coming as soon as the current Capcom Cup Supporter themed one ends.
It’s also probably not going to be related to the Street Fighter vs. Spy x Family crossover since that event is already scheduled to hit the game this week on January 9.
They could be planning another collaboration since SF6’s Producer previously stated they’ve got a bunch more planned for 2024, and they haven’t shied away from running multiple promotions at once before.
What might be the most likely candidate, however, is also probably the most mundane if we look at what happened last month when something very similar occurred.
There was an unannounced new product release slated for late December that ended up just being the Winter Glint and Noble avatar costume bundles.
This is perhaps further backed up by the fact that these outfits are leaving the Hub Goods Shop on January 26 as well, so we may well just be looking at more expensive avatar gear.
It would be funny / cool to see them promote Tekken 8’s release in a partnership with Bandai Namco since the dates match up, but we don’t really expect that to be a thing now either.
All we have to go on right now is past patterns and release schedules, so it could be something else entirely. We’ll all just have to keep our eyes out these next few days and weeks to see what else Capcom has to announce for us.
