In the latest transfer news, a move for Benfica’s Antonio Silva seems unlikely for major clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea in this January window, as per insights from Fabrizio Romano.
Romano has highlighted that Benfica is not inclined to part with the 20-year-old talent during the mid-season window.
Speaking with CaughtOffside, he remarked, “A deal that probably won’t be happening this January, however, is one for Antonio Silva. Despite latest rumours about Chelsea, I’m hearing no updates so far and all sources expect any deal to be more than difficult in January as Benfica don’t want to sell him.”
Manchester United, who have been keeping tabs on Silva, finds the prospect of a January deal financially prohibitive.
Romano confirmed, “Manchester United have scouted him multiple times and he remains one of the players they like but not for now, he’s probably going to be too expensive in January.”
The urgency for reinforcements in United’s squad has been underscored by a challenging season and the evident gaps in their lineup, particularly in the absence of an injured Lisandro Martinez.
While the possibility of Silva joining United remains uncertain, the club might need to consider offloading some players to make such a high-profile acquisition financially viable, ensuring compliance with Financial Fair Play regulations.
