Another great spiritual treasure of the Orthodox Tradition is now available for the Spanish-speaking faithful.
On December 21, at the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Buenos Aires, the new Spanish translation of St. Nikolai (Velimirović’s) Prologue From Ohrid was formally presented by His Grace Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South and Central America, the diocese reports.
The spiritual classic contains the lives of saints, homilies, and reflections for every day of the year.
Also present were His Eminence Metropolitan James of Argentina of the Antiochian Church, His Grace Bishop John of Caracas and South America of ROCOR, and His Grace Bishop Leonid of Argentina and South America of the Moscow Patriarchate. The event was attended by many faithful from the various communities.
During the event, the audience heard about the life of St. Nikolai, and especially about how his life was changed by meeting St. Silouan the Athonite and by reading the Fathers of the Church. Another great saint, the Holy Hierarch John (Maximovitch) referred to St. Nikolai as a new Chrysostom for our times.
Bp. Kirilo said about the book:
We have gathered in this period of the Nativity Fast to present one of the most important books written in the Serbian language, by one of the greatest authors in Serbia. St. Nikolai himself, in the preface of his book, said about holiness: There are two ways and both are correct: from Christ to the saints and from the saints to Christ. The saints are explained by Christ and the saints bear witness to Christ. Whoever has this always in mind while reading this book will get the most out of it. The saints are clean mirrors in which the beauty and power of the magnificent person of Christ is reflected. They are the seed of the Tree of Life. The tree is Christ and the fruit is the saints. A tree is known by its kind, because a good tree bears good fruits (Mt. 7:17).
The Prologue could serve as an Orthodox Christian’s ID, Bp. Kirilo said. If someone asks what Church we belong to, what God we believe in, we could give him The Prologue.
Work on the translation began several years ago with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro of blessed memory.
