Coca-Cola Foundation donates 10 recycling waste bins to Anambra govt

As part of it support for a clean, green and sustainable Anambra, the Coca-Cola Foundation Nigeria has donated a total of ten recycling waste bins to the State Government.

The Paradise News gathered that the donation took place during this year 2025 World Environment Day celebration/Cash 4Trash campaign programme, held at Igwubuike Grammar School Awka, on Saturday.

Speaking shortly after handing over the items to the State Government, the Foundation’s Senior Director of Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability, Mrs Amaka Onyemelukwe, said bins aimed at solving the long-standing problem of plastic waste defacing the State.

She noted that the gesture would also promote waste as a valuable currency for social good and economic inclusion in Anambra State.

According to her, the Foundation is doing this to support governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a clean, green and sustainable state in Nigeria.

“This is the first time we are really coming down to Anambra State because, we believe that the current government of Anambra State is progressive minded. We want a cleaner Anambra State.

“Coca-Cola Foundation Nigeria is contributing it quarter to ensure a plastic free Anambra, Onyemelukwe stated.

In his acceptance speech, the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Felix Odimegwu, while commending the Foundation for the gesture, assure that the bins will be used judiciously for the good of state.

“The Government of Prof Soludo will not take this support for granted.

The support will further help the State Government to tackle the head-on in the cycular economic agenda of our working governor, the Commissioner noted.

In his brief remark, the Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Mr Mike Ozoemena, assure the foundation of government full collaboration.

Also speaking, the President/Chief Executive Officer of Statewide Waste and Environmental Education Foundation (SWEEP Foundation), Amb. Obuesi Philips, said the event was a trio programme,  commemorate this year World Environment Day with the theme, “To beat plastic pollution” Cash 4Trash campaign and the ten recycling bins donation.

He said the Cash 4Trash campaign is a program supported by the State Ministry of Environment, ASWAMA and SWEEP Foundation to preach a behavioral change for Anambra residents to embrace a new lifestyle and to granting a clean, green and sustainable Anambra State.

The event also featured buying of waste plastic cans from prospective plastic waste pickers by the organisers.
