Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, the former aide President Muhammadu, Buhari has commended the Senator representing Cross River Southern Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, over what he described as the lawmaker’s transparency and accountability in governance.
Obono-Obla made the commendation Sunday in a post on his Facebook handle which he titled, “Accountability in Governance: A Call for Transparency in Cross River State”.
In the article, the former anti corruption czar in the Buhari administration says “It is commendable that Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, representing the Cross River Southern Senatorial District, has swiftly responded to my call for accountability on May 18, 2025, through a newsletter titled Cross River South Times, where he outlined what he described as “unstoppable performance” over one year and ten months in office.”
He stated that “The primary role of a legislator is to conceive laws and policies that, once enacted, enhance the rule of law, promote peace, and foster stability in the country. In his scorecard, Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong highlights his legislative engagements, including sponsoring six motions and successfully pushing legislation for the establishment of the South South Development Commission.
“So far, his contributions in the Senate appear commendable. However, I intend to take my time to thoroughly study his newsletter, provided he is kind enough to make an electronic copy available to me via email at okoiadvocate@gmail.com.”
“For now, I will reserve further comments until the Senators representing the Cross River Northern and Central Senatorial Districts, along with the eight House of Representatives members from Cross River State, also provide a detailed account of their stewardship. Specifically, they must clarify how they have utilized the substantial allocations received for constituency projects since the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“Transparency and accountability are essential pillars of good governance, and public officials must uphold these principles. I commend Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong for his prompt response and encourage his colleagues to follow suit in ensuring that the people they represent remain well-informed about their legislative and developmental efforts,” Obono-Obla writes.
