Onana and his family are understood to have settled well in the north-west, having purchased a house earlier this year.
The keeper is determined to fight for his United career rather than seek a move away.
The decision now puts the spotlight firmly back on Amorim.
Amorim will have to weigh up whether to persist with Onana or look for alternatives, with pressure mounting to make changes as the club’s struggles continue.
