Manchester United are expected to recruit at least one new centre-back this summer.

With both Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans set to depart the club once their contracts expire, reinforcements are essential.

Ruben Amorim has made it clear that upgrades are needed to maximise his 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.

Mathijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro have convinced sections of the fanbase so far.

However, both would benefit from an experienced, high-quality partner to complete the back three.

Amorim’s tactical setup places an enormous emphasis on composure, resilience, and concentration at the back.

Red Devils in race to sign dominant centre-back Piero Hincapie

Now, Manchester United have reportedly joined the growing race to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

That’s according to Spanish publication SPORT, who state that United have made contact with the player’s camp to explore a possible summer move.

Hincapie, 23, has impressed throughout Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga campaign and continues to attract major European interest.

The Ecuador international has previously been linked to both Real Madrid and Liverpool, with a summer move widely expected.

Real Madrid’s interest could be directly tied to the future of Xabi Alonso, with the Leverkusen boss tipped to replace Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu.

SPORT claim Hincapie has a release clause of €50 million (£42.7 million).

A fee which could tempt several suitors including United and Tottenham Hotspur.

United’s ability to make a move will depend on summer sales.

INEOS are said to be pushing for a record-breaking window of outgoing deals.

Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho are all available for permanent transfers.

While futures remain uncertain for Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite remains a long-time target.

However, his £70 million valuation could force United to consider more cost-effective alternatives.

Hincapie’s blend of technical quality and left-footed balance would certainly improve United’s ceiling.
