Back in 2021, there were multiple rumors that NetherRealm Studios was secretly making a Marvel Comics video game, but now we know instead they were actually working on Mortal Kombat 1.
Prominent modder and data-miner Thethiny just put together a Marvel vs. DC / comic book mod showcase for MK1 that shows off what the crossover could have looked like.
This showcase combines the works of six different creators into one copy of Mortal Kombat for a wider cohesive theme that’s fun to see in action.
The video starts out not with Marvel or DC back to Omni-Man with an alright looking Invincible and Atom Eve taking on the Viltrumite.
Following that, we get to see J. Jonah Jameson taking on both Spider-Men we’ve previously covered a bit of, but then things start getting more fresh and entertaining.
Although he just came out, TeamBeyonders already made a pretty slick looking Loki mod for Quan Chi that fits pretty darn well, and Thethiny made him fight Deadpool, which is even better over Johnny Cage.
And speaking of perfect fits, seeing classic Wolverine and Iron Man replace Baraka and Cyrax are great too plus some Hulk action on the Marvel side too.
The DC boys get to come in at the very end with The Joker and Injustice Superman for Johnny Cage and Omni-Man, but we unfortunately don’t get to see them battle their Marvel brethren.

These custom models are looking pretty decent three months into MK1’s life already though it appears as though there’s still some issues to work out like Johnny’s hair poking through Deadpool’s mask and Iron Man keeping Cyrax’s dreads, which will hopefully get ironed out in the near future.
With Warner Bros. Discovery’s future kinda up in the air at the moment, it’s going to be supremely interesting to see where things end up for NetherRealm and what their next project is going to be.
That’s probably at least like five years away at this point, but maybe we’ll end up seeing that Marvel game after all. Stranger things have happened.
