Manchester United in talks with Bundesliga star

Ruben Amorim’s favoured 3-4-3 system is heavily reliant on wing-backs, a position where Manchester United currently lack top-tier options.

The club attempted to address this issue in January by signing Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu to reinforce the left side.

Dorgu’s performances have shown promise, highlighting the kind of dynamic wing-back Amorim is seeking for the right flank as well.

Despite their versatility, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have both struggled to fully adapt to the wing-back role, leaving United in search of a more natural fit.

As the club prepares for a squad overhaul, it has become clear that reinforcements in this area are a priority.

In response, Manchester United have reportedly intensified their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman has thrived in the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso, whose tactical setup also depends on attacking wing-backs to provide width and fluidity.

Jeremie Frimpong was instrumental in Leverkusen’s title-winning campaign last season, registering nine goals and seven assists in 31 league appearances.

His attacking output remains impressive this term, with 10 goal contributions in 26 Bundesliga matches.

United previously explored a move for Frimpong last summer, but with Amorim now set to take charge, the club has reignited its interest.

According to Graeme Bailey of TBR, the Red Devils have already held discussions with Frimpong’s representatives, while Liverpool have also entered the race.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong has gained urgency following reports that Trent Alexander-Arnold is edging closer to a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The Merseyside club views Frimpong as a potential replacement, but United are equally keen to bring the 24-year-old to Old Trafford.

Further complicating matters, Manchester City—Frimpong’s former club—have also been in contact with his camp.

The Dutchman left City for Celtic in 2019 without making a senior appearance, but a return to the Etihad remains a possibility.

A key factor in Frimpong’s potential move is his €40 million release clause, which makes him an attractive target for clubs seeking a high-quality wing-back.

With multiple European giants circling, United will need to act decisively if they hope to secure Frimpong’s signature.
