The Rivers State Government has announced the suspension of all political office holders and appointees in the state, effective immediately.
According to a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator, the suspension affects top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, who has been ordered to hand over to the Permanent Secretary.
The Chief of Staff has also been suspended, alongside Honourable Commissioners, who will hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Chairmen and members of all boards, councils of agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals have also been suspended, pending further notice. Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants have not been spared, as they too have been suspended.
The affected officers are required to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their MDAs.
In cases where there is no Permanent Secretary, they are to hand over to the most senior Director or Head of Administration.
This development comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The state of emergency is set to last for an initial period of six months.
The suspension of all political office holders and appointees is seen as a further move to consolidate the state of emergency declared by the President.
