Rasmus Hojlund learns FA decision after controversial goal celebration

Rasmus Hojlund has endured a challenging season, struggling to find the back of the net for Manchester United after a promising start to his Premier League career.

The Danish striker arrived with high expectations but has faced mounting pressure due to his inconsistent form in front of goal.

Injuries and tactical adjustments under Ruben Amorim have also played a role in disrupting his rhythm, leaving fans frustrated as they await his true potential to shine.

Despite his setbacks, Rasmus Hojlund has remained a key figure in United’s attack, showing glimpses of his talent with his movement and physicality.

However, his goal drought stretched on for 22 hours of football, raising questions about his confidence and sharpness in front of goal.

His recent struggles had even led to speculation about his place in the starting lineup, with critics questioning whether United needed a more experienced striker to lead the line.

The doubts surrounding his form were put to rest, at least momentarily, on Sunday when he finally broke his barren spell in Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City.

The 22-year-old striker fired in the opening goal and wasted no time in bringing back his signature celebration, which had been absent throughout 2025.

As he sprinted towards the traveling United fans at the King Power Stadium, Rasmus Hojlund first gave a thumbs-up before swiftly flipping it to a thumbs-down, a move he first showcased during a Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt.

He then executed a throat-slitting gesture, a celebration reportedly inspired by the Gladiator film franchise, which gained renewed popularity following the release of its sequel last year.

The celebration, making a return after 99 days, has drawn attention, but according to The Mail, the FA will not be taking any disciplinary action against the United forward.

Officials have opted for a lenient stance, determining that Rasmus Hojlund’s gestures do not violate any regulations or warrant intervention.

After the match, Hojlund expressed relief at ending his goal drought, acknowledging that his confidence had taken a hit during his dry spell.

“Yeah, of course.

“I’m happy, but it’s not all about goals,” he admitted.

“I’m obviously very happy to get my goal, and it gives me a lot of confidence.”

He also spoke about the ongoing tactical adjustments under Amorim, revealing that he is still adapting to new expectations.

“I think it comes down to my performances as well.

“I’ve not been on top of my game as I wanted to be, and we’re still adapting to a new system and some new positions,” he said.

“But I think I’ve been growing into it lately and starting to look a bit better.”

Rasmus Hojlund is eager to build on this breakthrough and rediscover his scoring touch following the international break, as he looks to prove he can be United’s long-term solution up front.
