Lady Bobcats pull away late in win over Straughn

A battle between the Lady Bobcats of Opp and the Straughn Lady Tigers stayed close for a while, but Opp found its offense in the later innings, pulling away for a 13-1 victory.
The first run of the game came in the top of the third when Rylie Kate Thrash and Crislyn Birge notched consecutive singles. After a walk to Taylor Adams loaded the bases, a walk to Addison Moseley gave up a 1-0 edge.
Opp increased its lead in the top of the sixth with the help of a two-RBI single by Bradleigh Lanier who later scored on an error, making the score 4-0.
Opp did big damage in the top of the seventh, scoring nine runs with the biggest hit coming in the way of a three-run homer by Autumn Green.
Straughn scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the inning. Layla Walker led off the inning with a double and later scored on a ground ball by Jaycee Norton.
Green led the way for the Opp offense, going two-for-five with three RBI and a run scored. Birge went three-for-four at the plate with an RBI and scored two runs. Mosely had two hits for two RBI and a run scored while Thrash added two hits and scored three runs.
Sophie Pettus led the Lady Tigers with three hits while Adelaide Dunn, Norton, and Layla Walker each had base hits.
Moseley shined in the circle for Opp, recording 11 strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
Straughn starting pitcher Julia Norton pitched 4.2 innings with four strikeouts while McKena Bailey pitched 2.1 with one strikeout.
The Lady Bobcats improve to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in Area 4. They will host Zion Chapel on Monday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m.
Straughn falls to 6-4, and are 0-1 in the area. They will host Excel on Monday, March 17, at 6 p.m.
