A Homegoing Celebration for Joan White will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at Emerald City Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 801 25th Ave., Seattle, WA 98122.
White, 77, was called home to be with the Lord after a lifetime of faith, love, and dedication to her family and community. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Rev. William M. Duncan and Margaret K. Hayes. Throughout her life, White’s faith was her guiding light. She attended the A.L. Harding Academy of Theology, where she earned an Associate Degree in Theology. She loved the Lord with all her heart and devoted herself to serving others as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and community servant at Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church, where she joyfully prepared meals for fellow worshippers.
Her passion for caring for others extended beyond the church. White worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Psychiatric Nurse for over 35 years, offering compassion and comfort to those in need. She also found joy in writing heartfelt poems for the sick and shut-in, sharing words of encouragement and love. In 1984, she and her beloved daughter, Tracy, moved to Seattle from Missouri, where she continued making a lasting impact on those around her.
White was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister Marilyn, and two brothers, who now welcome her at the pearly gates. She leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of those who survive her, including her devoted daughter, Tracy White; her six sisters, Nellie, Lorraine, Mary (Andrew), Lilly-May (Robert), Elizabeth, and Ruth-Ann; her four brothers, Baby Richard, William, Ernest, and John; her cherished grandson, Markel; and her grand-puppy, Onyx. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever hold her memory close.
White—affectionately known as Mom, Aunt Joanie, Ms. White, and Sister Joan—touched the lives of many with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest forever in God’s loving arms.
