AIK competes in Tennessee martial arts tourney

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate competed in the Bryan College Martial Arts Open Tournament hosted by the Bryan College Martial Arts Academy on Saturday, March 8, in Dayton, Tennessee.
Bryan College is one of only a handful of colleges in the United States that offers a four-year karate curriculum. Scholarship athletes make up their team that competes all over the southeastern United States. The program is directed by Zak Barnes of Dayton.
Bryan College Coordinator of Athletic Operations, Camille Holley, who began karate training at Andalusia Isshinryu Karate, competes as a member of the Bryan College Team. Camille won first places in black belt women’s kata and fighting at the tournament.
Five students from Andalusia Isshinryu Karate competed in this year’s open.
Johnathan Rudd earned first place in 13-17 yr. youth black belt kata and fourth place in youth black belt weapons.
Lacey Rudd took first place in intermediate kata and first place in intermediate girls fighting.
Lawrence Sargent was fourth place in intermediate weapons, second place in intermediate kata, and fourth place in intermediate boys fighting.
Henley Sargent finished fourth place in beginning kata.
Eli Rudd competed but did not place.
Classes in Isshinryu Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are offered at Andalusia Isshinryu Karate on East 3 Notch St.
