EASLEY, S.C. (TCN) — A woman was arrested this week for allegedly fatally stabbing her newborn not long after giving birth in her apartment.
According to Easley Police Chief Brandon Liner, on Friday, March 7, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Pickens County Emergency Medical Services requested assistance for an incident at an apartment on Nations Way. Officers reportedly attempted to help EMS revive a newborn with serious injuries, but it was “to no avail.” Medics pronounced the child deceased at the scene.
Detectives determined it was “very evident” that An Ngo gave birth inside the apartment. Liner said it also became “very apparent that Ms. Ngo is the one who tragically murdered this child.”
Investigators obtained search warrants and later an arrest warrant to take Ngo into custody for homicide by child abuse. If convicted, she faces 20 years to life in prison.
The arrest report cited by WHNS-TV alleges Ngo “repeatedly stabbed him with a long metal letter opener.”
Liner said a news conference, “I’ve been doing this for 2 1/2 decades and I’ve never seen anything this gruesome. I’ve never seen anything this bad.”
He continued, “We will speak for this baby because he cannot speak for himself. We will make sure this baby will receive justice.”
