The Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON), Cross River Chapter has been elevated to the status of South-South Zonal Headquarters of the association.
National Chairman, Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON), Comrade Wole Arisekola made the disclosure while speaking with members on telephone during the association’s second meeting held in Calabar, Saturday.
The newly established chapter of the Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON) in Cross River according to the National Chairman is to oversee the affairs of AMPON in the entire Niger Delta region while Comrade Obaji Akpet in the meantime will lead the region as Acting Chairman.
The AMPON National Chairman who expressed gratitude on the seriousness shown by practitioners of online media platforms to establish AMPON in the state said Cross River has been integrated into the national body of the association as the first state in the Niger Delta region to establish AMPON effectively.
He further disclosed that several persons have called him on phone in connection with the establishment of AMPON in the region, but that he has persistently directed all the callers to liaise with Comrade Obaji Akpet who is currently the Zonal Acting Chairman of the region adding that both Akpet’s appointment and the South-South zone status of the association will be confirmed at the national executive meeting billed to take place shortly at Abuja.
According to the National Chairman “Someone added me yesterday on facebook and said he wants to start AMPON in River State, I said no, they should go back to contact my friends in Cross River and I gave them the acting Chairman’s number; that they should go, I don’t want anybody to start having AMPON anywhere again in Niger Delta, everyone must come under Cross River.”
“At the end of the meeting, I will get all you want and also ask your Acting Chairman to come over to Abuja, when you want to do inauguration we will all fly in from Abuja to Calabar to inaugurate AMPON in the area.”
Comrade Arisekola maintained that “We’re the only recognized online media association in Nigeria, we’re professionals.”
He reiterated the need for AMPON in the Niger Delta region to come under one umbrella in order to build a more formidable body in the region.
On the absence of AMPON website, Arisekola noted that the association had to suspend the site till it was done with documentation of all its members across the country adding that the website which was aimed at not only being information platform for the association but a database of all its members is to avoid unscrupulous elements parading themselves as members of the union thereby defrauding unsuspecting public, and assured that the site would soon be rehosted to meet the needs of the association.
“We have started designing our website, but I want all regions to be included before we unveil it,” the National Chairman added.
Acting Chairman, AMPON Cross River, Obaji Akpet, who was elevated to the position of regional chairman pledged total commitment to see that the dream of the association in the region come to fruition.
