Sexual Harassment: FUOYE Vows Transparent Probe Of Vice Chancellor

The Governing Council of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has assured stakeholders of transparent investigation into the case of alleged sexual harassment and victimisation leveled against the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Folusho Ogunmodede, in a statement, on Tuesday in Oye-Ekiti, said the governing council had inaugurated a nine-member committee to investigate the veracity or otherwise of the allegation.

He said that the committee which was inaugurated on Jan. 20, has three weeks to conduct it’s investigation and submit its report to council.

Fasina was accused of allegedly pressuring and sexually harassing a female member of staff, Mrs Folasade Adebayo.

Adebayo, a former Deputy Director in the Directorate of Works and Services at the university, had claimed that she was abruptly removed from office because she refused to accept the VC’s sexual advances towards her.

She, thereafter, wrote a petition to the governing council of the university seeking justice for her removal from office by the vice chancellor.

The statement by Ogunmodede read in part: “The Governing Council of FUOYE under Sen.Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, remains unwavering in its zero-tolerance stance on sexual harassment and misconduct.

“We urge all stakeholders to allow due process to take its course and refrain from interference, speculation, or misinformation over alleged sexual harassment involving the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.

“FUOYE remains committed to safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of its academic community while upholding the highest ethical standards.

“FUOYE assures students, staff, and stakeholders that the university will continue to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.”

The statement added that investigation was ongoing with all relevant parties, including union representatives, invited to ensure a fair and transparent process.
