At the end of 2023, Sir Jim Ratcliffe announced his bid for 27.7% ownership of Manchester United, with the deal going through in February 2024.

Since then, the INEOS owner has been a massive presence at the club, making a huge array of changes to ease the financial pressures on the club, most of which have been extremely controversial.

Ticket price concessions have been scrapped, funding to several Manchester United-associated groups has been cut, and Sir Alex Ferguson has been axed from his Global Ambassador role, to name a few.

The club have also seen the coaching staff be completely remodelled twice within a year, once under Erik ten Hag, then again less then six months later as Ruben Amorim brought his coaching staff from Sporting Lisbon with him.

With the INEOS owner being so hands-on with the operations at the club, it might come as a surprise that he’s not the only owner to do so.

Joel Glazer still plays “hands-on” role in negotiations

Manchester Evening News has reported that Joel Glazer is still actively involved with the club, especially with their transfer plans.

The report explains that Glazer still reserves the right to sign off and veto any transfer deal despite Ratcliffe controlling football operations at the club.

As the United co-chairman alongside his brother, Azram, Joel Glazer has been described as “more hands-on” throughout the club’s winter transfer negotiations.

A source within United has been clear that this hands-on approach from Glazer in transfers is they way he has always been, with no special change since Ratcliffe has assumed power.
