Faith Ogochukwu

While surfing the net recently I came across a social media thread made by a female officer of the Nigerian Army (NA). Her name is identified as Faith Ogochukwu.
Ogochukwu made some important remarks on her Facebook page that got me thinking for a while about the patriotism of officers and men (women inclusive) of Nigeria’s Armed Forces. Albeit, what particularly got me interested in the post is the contrast that
her comments naturally incite on a thinking cap. Her sublime remarks reminds me of the preoccupation of a majority of our girls, ladies, etc some of whom are students of tertiary institutions.

It’s often the case that if you find a beehive of ladies in discussion with their folks, the subject of their talk won’t transcend fashion, celebrity gists, music, movies, photographs and very importantly —men. So, on their social media accounts a majority of women’s updates revolve around their striking poses before a photographer, their fashionable wears, which sit out in town they recently visited, who broke whose heart and the like. It’s from them we learnt the vocabulary —Boo and Bae (by now we all know what they mean, if you don’t they represent male and female), slayer, etc.
These ephemeral concerns have not been the preoccupation of a handful of other ladies notable among which is Faith Ogochukwu, our adorable army officer. See what Ugochukwu said that inspired this write up at the first instance:
‘We don’t know how to carry hand bag but we know how to carry rifle; we don’t know how to paint nails but we know how to fix animation;
‘We don’t have time for parties but we have time for parade. If you’re beautiful than us, yes we know why, it is because you have not seen half of the suffer we have gone through,
‘…if you go through it you will know we’re queen of the battle. I love what I do…service to my country’.
Are these words not seminal!? There are others who are making deliberate efforts to distinguish themselves in society. I must confess that Nigeria boast of a cache of brainy women, ladies, girls, etc. If you are reading my post and you are on the other side of the divide given to exclusive partying, handbags carrying, reminiscing over heart breaks and spewing swear words against perceived heartbreakers, I am asking you to join Faith Ugochukwu. Take deliberate steps to make your life count!
A stitch in time, saves nine.
