Wet start to the weekend

Wet start to the weekend

A wintry storm continued to drench the north state Saturday, dumping between 1½ and 2½ inches of rain on Butte County communities in 24 hours.

Strong winds overnight lessened in the morning. Damage appeared nominal around Chico, where swollen creeks and saturated mounds of leaves predominated over fallen trees or limbs. The downpour halted around 11 a.m., but the afternoon forecast called for further rainfall.

PG&E had 28 outages reported Saturday morning in Butte County — the biggest east of Oroville, affecting more than 500 customers, though work crews restored power to many within hours. Smaller outages dotted Chico, Magalia, Oroville, East Biggs and Gridley.

The National Weather Service’s updated forecast called for morning fog in the valley but otherwise no inclement conditions until Monday, when the agency’s Sacramento office anticipates showers in the valley and foothills, light snow in the mountains, through Tuesday morning.
