Ben Courson announces bid to run for Dist. 1 commissioner

Ben Courson, a lifelong resident of Opp, Alabama, announced his plans to seek election to the Covington County Commission for District 1 on Thursday, Nov. 9.
Ben is a 1992 graduate of Opp High School and a 1996 graduate of Auburn University. Since that time, he has not only owned and operated a small cattle farm but also worked for Alabama Farmers Cooperative in numerous capacities. During the 20 plus years of service with AFC, he spent 10 years managing the Opp Farmer’s Co-op. He is currently a member services representative for GreenPoint Ag.
“I believe that my years of experience in business and management will be an asset to the citizens of Covington County,” Courson said. “In addition, I believe that our present commissioner, Kenneth Northey, has done a commendable job representing our district for many years. I pledge to continue building upon the foundation he established by making conservative and ethical decisions.”
Ben is an active member of Ino Baptist Church, a member of the Covington County Cattlemen’s Association, and a past president of the Covington County Young Farmers.
He is married to Elizabeth (Lanier) Courson and is the proud parent of three children: Anna Kate, Caroline, and Cale. He is the son of the late Ronald and Peggy Courson.
