MAYS LANDING, N.J. (TCD) — A 75-year-old woman is in custody after allegedly fatally beating and stabbing her 81-year-old boyfriend in their home over the weekend.
According to a news release from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, on Sunday, March 31, at approximately 5:39 p.m., officers with the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to a residence at 13 Lewis Drive, where they found Gary Johnson deceased from multiple wounds to his head and body.
The South Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined Johnson died of blunt force trauma and stab wounds.
Investigators identified Eileen Bright, Johnson’s live-in girlfriend, as the primary suspect. According to NJ.com, Bright admitted to detectives that she killed Johnson in their home. She also allegedly told a neighbor about the slaying.
NJ.com reports that officers recovered a knife inside the residence.
Bright was booked into the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.
