The Moldovan Orthodox Church festively celebrated the 595th anniversary of the Dormition of the Mother of God-Căpriana Monastery (25 miles northwest of Chișinău) on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
The first documentary attestation of the monastery came in 1429, when Prince Alexander the Good issued a decree granting it the status of a royal monastery.
The day also marked the feast of the Holy Hierarch Gabriel of Chișinău and the Synaxis of Moldovan Saints.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by nine Moldovan hierarchs and eight priests, led by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladmir of Chișinău, and attended by faithful from throughout country, reports the Moldovan Orthodox Church.

“The Holy Hierarch Gabriel (Bănulescu-Bodoni) was called by God to a special spiritual life. He was a light that burned for God and for others. His holy calling remains a worthy model to follow for hierarchs, priests, monks, and all believers. The call is addressed to all of us to follow our Savior Jesus Christ,” emphasized the primate of the Orthodox Church of Moldova in his spiritual message.
The celebration ended with a fraternal agape meal, offered to the pilgrims with much love by the monastery community.
